Teacher Life: February 2017 Update

3/3/2017

Welcome to my monthly teacher life updates where I share what I've been up to at school, what new teaching resources I have created and any other things that have been going on!
Teacher life updates: February 2017 @resourceforce
In school:
Ah February - it was a bit of a double edged sword. One one hand it was tough as it consisted of lesson observations, reports, and deadlines etc. but on the other hand I had glorious week off half way through the month! I guess the best way to describe it would be a roller coaster month.
We also had to deal with Storm Doris here in the UK which sent the kids absolutely potty...!? That was probably the toughest day of the whole month actually! It's so peculiar how the weather has such a profound affect on their behaviour... only a teacher can fully understand that!

Oh Doris, you made the kids go cray cray!
In my store:
You may have noticed that I have been growing the set of Character Education resources for teenagers - I am so excited about this series! I'm working my way through the negative traits I am seeing in my own students, one at a time... In February I made a unit on courage and self-respect. These two came as a result of one of my lessons on bullying. I noticed so many of my students were struggling with having the courage to stand up for themselves or others when being disrespected, and some students were showing signs of low self-respect by allowing themselves to be the butt of a joke for a "laugh". I'm already noticing a more positive difference in my students since doing these lessons with them. We still have some work to do, but I just adore helping them in this way! Oh, and because we all need some easy yet inspiring classroom decor, I've made you some self-esteem quote colouring pennants too - kids absolutely love these!

I also spruced up a resource I made many years ago when I was preparing for my first whole staff meeting in order to break the ice a bit. They are 99 "this or that" cards, especially for teachers! I had them playing on a PowerPoint while I was waiting for everyone to arrive and the staff were LOVING them - it was such a fun way to boost morale and make meetings a little more fun!

Finally, I had an urge to create some clip art in February and I inspired by the oh-so-delightful "dabbing" trend (that is just not dying...). Then that clip art sparked off some "dab brag tags" that I made just for a laugh! I have put these up for free on TpT so you can use them in your classroom as a reward system if you like! This month I've been musing about some of the more "bleugh" parts of teaching such as staff meetings and observations and my suggestions on how you can get through them with a positive attitude, check them out below:

On Social Media:
So, I've been doing a little something new on social this month: I've been posting some Instagram stories! I want to share more of my personal life with you and include some behind the scenes shots too. So far I've posted a few clips of what I've been up to such as admiring a pretty sunset, updating my website and hitting up a comedy club among other things! It's a little sad that there is no way to engage on stories yet, so I have no idea if you're liking the content or not..!? If you do see my stories, please swipe up and send me a message: I'd love to know what you think! You can check out my Instagram here @teachersresourceforce.
In life:
February has gone by in a complete blur if I'm being totally honest!? School got a little stressful towards the end so my well-being went on the back burner for a while. I haven't done yoga in a few weeks and aside from my #peakofmyweek on Instagram, I've been forgetting to write in my gratitude journal too - agh! Bad me... It's my March resolution to get these two things back on my radar as they really make a profound difference to my well-being.  On the plus side, my half term break was wonderful and I managed to catch up on plenty of sleep!

How has your month been? Are you keeping up with your 2017 resolutions so far? Leave a comment below, I'd love to hear from you!
