What is personal development anyway, and why do we need it? Like many other teachers, I had a rocky start to my journey and had to learn (and am still learning!) many lessons the hard way. What I am certain of, is that personal development - the pursuit of your expanding full potential - is the absolute key to success in teaching and life. It is what keeps us going through the hard times and what enables us to be the best role model we can be to others. In this episode I share with you the importance of our journey of personal development and how your impact on the world can be so much greater than you ever dreamed it could be.

It's that time of year when we're starting to think about setting goals for the next year and making plans to better our lives. Unfortunately, so many of us fail to stick to our resolutions because we are missing the second two steps of the process! In this episode we discuss all 3 steps to achieving your goals and I share some ideas for outstanding habits you can instil in your daily routine to ensure you have a healthier and happier life as a teacher.
Many times we are afraid of taking on new challenges in teaching but this fear comes from our own self-beliefs. If you are wanting to take yourself to a new level or try something new but are feeling like a bit of a fraud, then this episode will help you get through this barrier to help you believe you can do anything you put your mind to.
There are so many things we need to be doing and so much we want to be mastering as teachers, which can overwhelm us and make us feel like we're unsuccessful or "failing" as a teacher. However, teaching is a long game and needs to be played as such. You can't do all the things all at once; the only person you should be trying to beat is the teacher you were yesterday.
Teaching, and life in general, will have good days and tougher days. But they are just that - individual days. It can feel like one bad day or experience is permanent and means you're "not cut out for teaching" but that isn't always the case. I share with you some practical tips to help you win your battles, and having to fight them more than once is perfectly OK. You will win if you choose to never give up.
Today's episode, you're encouraged to be clear on what your goals are for your life both personally and professionally and you will learn some actionable steps to help you move forward in the right direction. In order to make progress in our goals we need to make some sacrifices, if not then our dreams become the sacrifice. As teachers we often sacrifice so much for our job, so in this episode you're encouraged to find balance, achieve your goals and continue to fulfil your full potential.
Ever wondered why you feel like you're being pushed to your limits as a teacher? Do you ever feel like you seem to be having a harder time than those around you? It's likely because it's for a very good and exciting reason! Listen on to hear how in a flash, you can shift your mindset to get you through the challenging times.
In this episode, I discuss the reality of failure. There is such a stigma around failure and our initial reaction is to think it's a bad thing, but actually it's a crucial element of growth and improvement that we shouldn't be afraid of. As teachers, we often feel like we are "failing" a lot of the time due to the pressures and our own high standards. I share with you some ideas for how we can adjust our mindset as teachers of how we view and deal with failure.
Every Wednesday I'll share a "Quick Quote" to give you a mid week boost to keep you teaching strong until the weekend. Today's quote is all about those little things that seem insignificant at the time and people may even tease you about. In teaching, there are many "small things" that we do that people may wonder why you're doing them (laminating, wall displays, grading with stickers?!) But if these small steps are taking you closer towards your goal or mission, then keep going - even if no one else understands or appreciates you yet.
