Teachers Resource Force: Sunday Scoop 8th March 2015

8/3/2015

Today I am linking up with Teaching Trio again for the Sunday Scoop! Here's what's going on in my week:

HAVE TO:
As we teachers know, being on our feet all day means our shoes get a right beating... It feels like I am always needing to re-sole my shoes (and I have a lot of shoes...) but alas, my tan boots have had as much wear as I can tolerate so I need to get them sorted asap!

Also as usual, the weekly lesson plans must be written down. I also need to chase up some online orders for resources I need for my lessons that haven't arrived yet, agh!

Finally, I have munched my way through all my emergency snack supplies at work so I need to restock - can't be without food at work or I get very "hangry"..! (Love this mug, it  definitely creates some giggles in the staffroom haha - click to get your own!)

HOPE TO:
I am going to try avoiding working so late this week - I have got a parent teacher conference coming up soon as well as lesson observations, and the late nights take their toll. So I am hoping to dedicate at least 2 days where I will leave on the bell and make the most of my afternoon.

Related to this, last week I spent almost every evening passing out for hours as soon as I fell through the door. Although sleep is always welcome, I did wake up feeling really groggy and even more lethargic... So this week I am going to avoid  the long evening naps as much as possible (or at least the 2-3 hour ones!? Seriously.) However, if I get desperate I found this guide which seems much more reasonable:

HAPPY TO:
I usually spend my Sunday nights going out as a way of signing off the week, and I love it! This week I'm out for dinner :)

Thanks for checking in with me and I hope you have a great week!

National Women's History Month lesson ideas

4/3/2015

So, March is here and it is that time again where we appreciate the awesome Women of the World and their contribution to society! Here are a couple of ideas you can incorporate into your classroom to celebrate these women!
Picture
Every year there is a new theme and new selection of women to celebrate. This year in 2015, we have the theme of "weaving the stories of women's lives". I have created a clip art set of the chosen women below (in the Rosie the Riveter pose of course!). These look awesome on a bulletin board too, as they add that little something extra rather than just photos - the kids love them!

I've also got a great teaching resource for you for researching these women! Your students can research all about them and complete these printables in lessons or for homework:

As their research is organized in these printables, they can then use their findings to do further activities such as:

  • Creating a blog post about one, some or all of the women (if you want a ready made blog template your students can use, click here!)
  • Design a bulletin board in your room in groups based on one, some or all of the women and then have a class vote. The winning group then need to put it up!

If you want more, you can check out my Women Inventors post which focuses all on some of our most amazing ladies who have made our lives so much easier and better because of their bright and creative minds! This resource comes with a PowerPoint and printables!

I hope this has given you some ideas you can use in your classroom! How are you incorporating Women's Month in your lessons this March?
