UEFA Euro 2016 Lesson Ideas

So "footie season" is officially upon us right now! For those of us still grafting away at school, this is a perfect opportunity to bring some freshness with the buzz of the Euro 2016 Football competition into the classroom!
So
I remember taking part in UEFA Euro sweep stakes back when I was at school, and it was always enjoyable for everyone, even if they didn't like football!

A sweep stake can be done with any class, but I always tend to just do it with my form group at tutor time as I see them every day. It's very simple - tear up paper with all the competing countries written on, put them into a hat and everyone in the class picks one out. That is the team they will be supporting for the rest of the competition! If you wanted to, you could ask those interested to chip in a little bit of money and then pool it all together with the winner collecting all the cash - this can work very well for the older ones (and staff sweep stakes!). With my younger students I don't tend to do this, I just buy a t-shirt and football for the winner and they LOVE it!

I also find my students love tracking the results of the games, and every day I give a different student the responsibility of updating the scores on our board. I created a really easy to follow wall chart for the Euro 2016 which you can get hold of below and use in your own classroom:

So
You can print this off onto A4/Letter size paper and give a copy to each student, blow it up to a larger size to display on the wall, or even show it on your projector and add text boxes to update the results digitally every morning!

Included with this wall chart are a range of UEFA Euro 2016 activities that students can undertake during your lesson, at tutor times or even for homework:
So
The activities included educate students about Geography and different cultures of the countries competing in the games, as well as details about famous footballers taking part in the Euro 2016 - all whilst helping develop their literacy skills in researching, writing and presenting to their peers in unique and creative ways. These activities can work with a range of age groups, but they are especially superb for teenagers at tutor time!

This special event only happens once every 4 years, so make sure your students remember it and get excited with the activities in this pack!

How do you like to bring the excitement of the UEFA Euro Football competition into your lessons?

How to encourage your students to read question papers carefully!

We are in the thick of exam season in the UK, and it's a stressful time for all. To lighten the mood a little bit while still getting a very important message across to students, I have got 2 fun and free resources to share with you!
How to encourage your students to read question papers carefully. We are in the thick of exam season in the UK, and it's a stressful time for all. To lighten the mood a little bit while still getting a very important message across to students, I have got 2 fun and free resources to share with you! www.teachersresourceforce.com
A big problem I have found that students often make when taking exams, is they fail to read the questions carefully. It is so frustrating, especially when you know they know the answer but nerves got the better of them. Well, to inject a bit of humour while still drumming this point home, show them this hilarious video clip from a Mr Bean episode! I just love this - aside from the unsuccessful cheating, this really gets the message across to check the exam paper very carefully!
The second resource is my free Fake Exam! This is a clever way of getting your students to really read all instructions carefully before taking a test. It will be sure to make an impact and stick in their minds next time they sit an exam. (Just try not to laugh while they are doing it!).

If your students are still taking exams, I wish them the best of luck!
