Recently I have been working on a new style of teen clip art for my teaching resources. I have been combining some new techniques along with my love of fashion, to come up with a trendy new style of illustrations!
I've always believed in keeping my resources current for teens - both in terms of content and aesthetics, so I decided to explore ways in which I could take my clip art up a notch to make it even more modern and relatable for young people.
I began with sketching some random people wearing modern attire and taking selfies! My initial drawings were very much in the "development" stage (a.k.a. "poop") and so I discarded about 6 of them! However I persevered, and once I had created a particular character, I was finally happy with the new style. So, I put her up on Instagram to test the waters and receive some feedback:

I was delighted with the comments I received, and that post has been one of my most liked pictures ever, which is amazing! So, I sketched on and came up with a range of different illustrations of teen boys and girls on their phones (duck face selfies and texting included!) and decided to make this into a clip art set on TpT:
They've only been up a day and have already received a lot of interest, which is wonderful - I hope this fresh new look will help to engage and inspire our teenage students even more!
I have been on a roll since then and I drew another set especially for a new resource I had just recently finished creating (awards certificates: emoji style!). These illustrations are of teens receiving awards, trophies and medals and you can see a couple of them on my new resource, here:

I have lots of ideas for future illustrations, and I can't wait to carry on drawing and expanding my horizons. I already created a teacher illustration as a Valentine's gift to my Instagram colleagues earlier this week, which was another kindly loved post:
Finally, here's a sneaky peak at an illustration fresh from my desk this morning along with a before and after shot - I hope you like it!
EDITED TO ADD: More drawings and some deep reflection later, I've had to accept that these new style of illustrations are dramatically more labour intensive than my usual clip art; so much so, I feel they have actually developed into individual works of art in their own right! Although I am thoroughly enjoying drawing them, I have realised that these are in a new league of their own!
Therefore, I have decided to create a special Premier Illustrations especially for this style! I will create these illustrations exclusively for you seriously dedicated clip art lovers who will accept only the best in luxury illustrations for your resources!
