How to use raffle tickets to promote positive behaviour

As you are probably aware, a great way of managing behaviour is with positive reinforcement. By using raffle tickets (you can usually find them in pound shops) you can keep rewarding and encouraging positive behaviour all lesson long! This is particularly useful if you have a very challenging group.

The concept is simple; every time a student is displaying behaviour you approve of, be it working in silence, answering questions, helping others etc. you reward them with a raffle ticket. This can be done throughout the whole lesson which is excellent at rewarding invisible students who may not always get the attention they deserve, as well as those more challenging students who respond well to lots of attention!

At the end of the lesson, simply draw a raffle out of a pot and see who wins a prize! I suggest mixing up your rewards regularly so it builds hype and intrigue as time goes on! Obviously the more consistently good the behaviour during the lesson, the more raffles they earn and so the better chance a student has of winning. (Just make sure you recycle all those used raffle tickets afterwards!)
