Are you on the endless quest to finding "teacher balance"? Out of all the things you have read and tried in the past, has any of it worked in the long run or are you still looking for the "secret sauce"? Today's episode hits you with a big reality check - there is no secret sauce and there's nothing wrong with you either!

It's that you're being fed a lot of myths by coaching professionals or former teachers who are not necessarily able to practice what they preach in the classroom to see whether these tactics actually work for unique demands of a teacher's life.

In this episode, I drop some hard truth bombs and I'll offer you some of my practical alternative strategies and mindset shifts that I know actually work, because I am a teacher like you! If you're struggling with work life balance and nothing else has worked so far, this episode is for you.

As we well know, teaching is stressful. It’s stressful because there is always so much to do. The to do list will never be empty. We care deeply so we have an intrinsic desire to do a good job, which also adds stress. We deal with difficult people all day long, adults as well as kids. We are constantly running at a level 10 all day. We rarely stop for a break or to use the toilet all day long. No wonder we go home and collapse!? We are human and can only run on a level 10 for so long before our battery dies and we pass out. In this episode I share some of my top tips for relaxation that you can also use as a busy, stressed out teacher.

Human first, teacher second [Ep9]

5/11/2017

In today's episode we talk about how we need to accept that we can't always do everything perfectly all the time - and that is OK. We need to make allowances for ourselves to be humans first. The same goes for our classrooms: sometimes there are times we need to scrap the plan and do what is right for our students. There's a very good reason why machines would never be able to take over our jobs, so allow yourself to be a human - it's what your children need.
